Doulas provide physical, emotional, and educational support to families throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. Research shows that having a doula can lead to shorter labor times, reduced interventions, lower cesarean rates, and higher satisfaction with the birthing experience. By offering personalized care, doulas empower birthing individuals to make informed decisions and achieve their birth goals.  


Insurance Benefits and Coverage

Many Medicaid plans and private insurers now recognize the value of doula services. These services are often covered at no cost to the client once eligibility and plan details are confirmed. Below, you’ll find a space to detail the specific benefits provided by each insurance carrier:  


  • Prenatal Education and Classes- Up to 5 different classes on a variety of prenatal topics. 

    • Childbirth Education and Birth Plan Preparation

    • Parenting Class

    • Prenatal Care and Support

    • Lactation Class

    • Postpartum Care Class

  • 24/7 On Call Support by text or call starting at 38 weeks until birth

  • Active Labor Support: In person doula support at the hospital. Included Emotional, Informational, Physical and Partner Support. May include techniques such as massage, positioning, and acupressure as requested. Support will begin at hospital admittance during a spontaneous delivery. If an induction is necessary doula will attend starting at 4cm or Premature Rupture of Membranes. 

  • Backup Doula on File (and in the Wellcare network) in the event your doula has an emergency or event that prevents them to attend your birth.

  • Postpartum Visit for assessment and support of the mother and baby.

  Dogwood Doula’s Guide to: How to Get a Referral for Doula Care with Tricare  If you are a Tricare beneficiary and want to access doula care, follow these simple steps to secure a referral and start your journey toward supported, confident birthing care. Step 1: Confirm Your Eligibility Plan Type : Ensure you are enrolled in Tricare Prime or Tricare Select. Active duty members require a referral regardless of network status. Delivery Location : Referrals are only valid for deliveries outside of Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs). MTF births are not covered under the current program.  *WOMACK AMC is an MTF.
